Kia's Sportage is still available in both front-wheel drive and 4-wheel drive for 2009, and can be powered by either a 140-horsepower, 2.0L 4-cylinder engine or a 173-horsepower, 2.7L V6. The 4-cylinder engine comes standard with a 5-speed manual transmission or an optional 4-speed electronically controlled "Sportmatic" transmission. The Borrego is offered in two different well-appointed trim levels, LX and EX, both of which are available with a V-6 or V-8 engine and rear- or four-wheel drive. Both engines are modern all-aluminum designs, smooth, and powerful; the 3.8-liter V-6 makes 276 horsepower, while the 4.6-liter V-8 produces 337 horsepower.

There are 2 trim levels of the Sorento: the LX, with a 242-hp 3.3L V6; and the EX, with the 262-hp 3.8L V6. Both versions come with 5-speed automatic Sportmatic shifting with low range, but the EX Luxury edition has an available Borg-Warner Torque-On-Demand option. Both models are available as front-wheel or 4-wheel drive.
